Taking Pictures

Everyone taking this class, regardless of whether they are taking the AP test or not, must photograph all their work and submit it to me in either an email or a Google Doc.

Pictures need to be taken OUTSIDE but not in direct sunlight. A bright but shady spot will give you good images, but the ideal lighting is outside through clouds! Real cameras work best, but iphones that are an 8 or higher should work as well. Make sure you frame the images so the drawing isn't crooked in the frame. It's ok if you get a little of your background in the frame. We will crop it later.

Sizing: If you are just submitting your pictures to me, sizing isn't that important. Just send the pictures as is. If you are taking the AP test, you will want to make sure your images are somewhere in the 800 pixel range. (You want them to get big enough to show detail when they are clicked on). You can also combine images for each submission. For example, one image could include the final work with a small photo of you experimenting, and an earlier draft of the piece, so you can show both experimentation and revision.

Pro tips: Start photographing right away, so we have plenty of time to fix lighting, cropping and sizing issues! This is especially important if you are reworking your pieces! Don't miss out on a revision by changing the original without photographing it! If you are taking the AP test, when you upload your images to your AP account, crop them so there is no background - just paper.

Pictures:

Both are drawn on white paper. One was shot outside, one indoors. Can you guess which is which?
