Drawing Expectations
WHAT DO I EXPECT OF YOUR WORK?
All drawings must be done to the best of your ability, taking your time,
and really trying. Trust me, I know when you are faking your work.
DO:
-Use reference material whenever possible. ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHS.
(Do not try to google "easy tree drawing", or "simple cat drawing") Those
images are intended for kindergarteners! Never use another person's
drawing as a reference image.
Once you learn how...
-Add at least 5 levels of value to all your drawings. Use a grey scale to check this.
-Add full texture to your drawings. Remember, REALISM is what we are going
for!
-Add a background. Even something simple like a little value. This will help
make a drawing look finished.
-Be creative!
DON'T:
-Draw from only memory or your imagination.
-Draw any cartoon or Manga-style images. This is a fine art class, not an
illustration class. Here we strive for REALISM. Also, when you draw in these
styles, you are copying someone else's work. That's a NO-NO.
-Rush. Take your time. Really SEE what you are drawing.
-Have a negative attitude. You can do this. Stay positive.
