Blended Learning
I teach drawing through what is called a "Blended Learning." This is a technology based, student-driven, style of teaching that combines the best aspects of e-learning with the best of face-to-face, teacher interaction.
So what is a blended learning? Basically, instead of me standing in front of you, telling you what you need to know, you will be directing your own learning. Everything will be done through this website. You will take notes on your own google doc (which you will share with me), watch videos (you will need earbuds), and choose assignments. Videos of demos will be available for you to watch as many times as you need (vs. the traditional way, with me doing one demo, once, for the whole class). If you are absent, you will know exactly what we are doing, etc.
My roll will change. Instead of lecturing and running demos, I get to have more time to help you out and to give you advice. If you don't understand something, just ask!
Ideally, a blended learning environment will mean that you get to work at your own pace, you will get more support from me, you will have more choice, and you should develop a better and more memorable understanding of everything. You will work through all of the "part one" units at your own pace (within a loose due-date schedule). After that, you will choose your own curriculum. There will be lots of options to choose from in "part two". Together we will make a plan for you for the rest of the year.
Class time will be your greatest resource. You need to use it wisely. If you feel that studying for the test you have next period is a better use of your class time, YOU MUST TELL ME FIRST. (You will only get four chances to opt out of a drawing day per semester). Taking a few minutes to work on something for another class in NOT ALLOWED. You either take a full study day, or you work on your drawings.
