ABOUT GRADING & DEADLINES

What are the Grading Policies?

Each project is graded according to:

         -The difficulty of the assignment.

         -Your understanding of the assignment.

-Whether you used your time effectively.

         -Your commitment & effort.

         -Your Craftsmanship.

         -Your personal improvement.

 - I no longer use rubrics. I will be the rubric! I will tell you how to keep adjusting your

work until you accomplish what you need to for the lesson. You will also be asked to

explain your choices, work, and what you learned according to the lesson objective.

- I will not accept work as finished until it is at your personal best level, at which point you

   will receive an A.

- However, there are some circumstances where, despite this policy, you might not get a

final A for the grading period or semester. (More on this later).

-You will NOT be graded in comparison to anyone else's work, talent or ability.

-You WILL be graded according to your own commitment, effort and willingness to

  improve.

What are the deadline policies?

The deadlines are a little different in this class. I do not set individual deadlines for assignments within the grading period, but I do set some for the end of the grading periods. (They are more like benchmarks to keep everyone working and not wasting time). Don't worry, they still give you plenty of time! This gives you a little freedom to work longer on the stuff you like, and wrap up the stuff you aren't too into. Here they are:

By the first grading period (6 weeks): Units 1,2 & 3 (through step 4)

By the second grading period (12 weeks): Unit 3 (step 4) - (step 9)

By the end of Semester 1 (18 weeks): Unit 4 (step 1) - Unit 4 (step 3)

By the first grading period (6 weeks): Unit 4 (step 4) - Unit 4 (study drawing 2)

By the second grading period (12 weeks): Unit 4 (step 5) - Unit 4 (step 7)

By the end of Semester 2 (18 weeks): Unit 5 (step 1) - Unit 5 (study drawing 3)

- Please remember that these benchmarks represent the BARE MINIMUM that I expect

  you to do.

- Most students, both motivated and talented, should go MUCH FASTER THAN THIS.

- These benchmarks are in place only because my previous policy of no deadlines at all

was taken advantage of too much. There was always a handfull of students who tried to

get away with doing almost nothing all year. This is to hold them, and everyone

  accountable.

- If you get to the end of a grading period without reaching the benchmark, you will get

zeroes on those assignments until you turn them in. So it is possible to catch up. If you do

not, they will stay as zeroes, but the most you will get on those assignments is a B+. So

you will still be penalized for being late.

- If you are caught being off task, you will get a zero on what you are working on until you

turn it in. Then, the most you'll be able to get will be a B+ on that assignment.

- Zeroes will also be given on current work for 4 or more tardies, and for 4 or more

absences (excused or not) because it is reasonable to expect that you should have

completed the work by then. When they assignments are finally turned in, again, the most

you will be able to get on them is a B+. (Exceptions will be made for family emergencies

and unavoidable absences where you cannot work - just come talk to me about it). If you

are going to be absent but can still work, then we can figure something out. Come talk to

  me).

Those of you who will blast through all the bench marks (hopefully most of you)...just keep going! When you reach the end of a grading period you will get credit for everything you've done so far.
